abstract

background & aims: mistyping either a donor or a recipient can lead to transfusion with abo incompatible blood which results in severe intravascular hemolysis and may even result in the death of the recipient. abo phenotype is one of the essential tests in immunohematology. eighty percent of blood group a and ab persons are subtype a1 and a1b, respectively. the other 20% of these blood groups are subtype “non-a1,” most often a2 (or a2b). a1 phenotyping is not routinely performed in compatibility testing however, some patients and donors may be identified as “a, non-a1” or “ab, non-a1b” in the course of routine blood bank typing because they have anti-a1 antibody in their plasma. anti-a1 is a cold antibody with no clinical significance, but if reacted at 37˚c it can be clinically significant, that happens rarely. at the present, we report the prevalence of blood groups that have anti-a1 antibody and have clinical significance. the study was done to assess the prevalence of a subgroup and the transfusion implications.     materials & methods: an analysis was performed on patients during the period from june 2014 to november 2014. in this descriptive study, we enrolled 245 samples using random sampling method. to confirm the prevalence of a1 and a2 subtypes in abo grouping, we conducted a few tests. the collected data were analyzed by spss 15 statistical software.     results: there was about 94.6% of a1 subgroup and 5.4% of cases were of a2 subgroups. there was no proportion and prevalence of a1-antibody in a2 blood group in our samples, because there was no reaction between the blood serum of patients with cell a1 references. there was no trace of anti-a1 in the plasma of patients.     conclusion: the collected data show that implementation of some subgroups such as a1 and a2 and anti-a1 in blood grouping is vital for abo blood typing       source: urmia med j 2015: 26(6): 481 issn: 1027-3727

A Case Report of Blood Group Discrepancy because of Anti A1 with Clinical Significance and Anti C

Abstract Background and objectives: ABO phenotyping is one of the essential tests in Immunohematology. Incompatible blood group transfusion leads to acute hemolysis reactions and other serious complications. Anti A1 is a cold Antibody with no clinical significance, but if it is reacted at 37˚c can be clinically significant, which will be happened rarely. At the present, we report a Case with a...

Association of ABO Blood Group System and Anti-Sperm Antibody with Male Infertility

Background and Aims: The ABO blood group system is recognized as major and clinically significant blood group. This group is not only important in terms of blood transfusion and organ transplantation, but also has been utilized in genetic, fertility and infertility researches. The objective of the present study was to evaluate a possible relationship between ABO blood group system and ASA with ...

the evaluation of language related engagment and task related engagment with the purpose of investigating the effect of metatalk and task typology

abstract while task-based instruction is considered as the most effective way to learn a language in the related literature, it is oversimplified on various grounds. different variables may affect how students are engaged with not only the language but also with the task itself. the present study was conducted to investigate language and task related engagement on the basis of the task typolog...

A third example of the blood group antibody anti-k.

Levine, Wigod, Backer, and Ponder (1949) and Levine, Kuhmichel, and Wigod (1952) have described two examples of an antibody, " antiCellano," which reacts with all blood samples except those from individuals belonging to the rare genotype KK. The first example was found in a woman whose infant had mild haemolytic disease of the newborn; the second was found in a patient who had received several ...

Blood group incompatibility due to anti C antibody: a case report

Background and Aim: One of the main goals of blood transfusion medicine is to determine the compatibility of the blood products with the patients. Therefore, clinical and laboratory (serologic) evaluations should be done to determine the maximum compatibility (or minimum incompatibility). The most known blood groups is the ABO antigenic system and the most important of them is Rh system. Among ...
